On March 30. 2025 nine Beekman residents demonstrated against the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) policy regarding endangered species. The policy allows developers to cut down trees while endangered species, like the Indiana bat, are hibernating. Endangered species, the protesters say, shouldn’t have to wake up to find their tree habitats destroyed. They should be protected year-round.
